Right_TT Workshop
The right tree in the right town
Participation in the research activities developed within the research project PRIN “Right_TT. The right tree in the right town”, led by Prof. L.Macaluso (University of Palermo).
The research group of NatureCityLAB of University of Basilicata, together with colleagues from University of Hertfordshire (UH), contributed to the research activities by developing a design-driven activity within the Design Studio “Laboratorio progettuale di Fenomenologia dell'architettura” (Prof. I.Macaione).
The research project by University of Palermo investigates the hypothesis of urban forestation of one of the mountains that embrace Palermo (M. Grifone), where the monumental complex of Santa Maria di Gesù is considered as a possible entrance to the forest. In particular, the research identifies three project areas, object of the call for project.
Within this framework, the activity of NatureCityLAB contributed to answering the call for project by developing a project for the area Piazza Santa Maria del Gesu in Palermo. The designed project resonates around the theme of urban forestation, experimenting with different levels of pedestrianisation of the square, thus allowing several and different activities and informal practices to take place in the public streetscape. The proposal also suggest the integration of some kinds of Nature-based Solution and innovative technologies supporting the spatial transformation.
