Mission Future/Missione Futuro

Participation to the Workshop Summer school “Mission Future”, organized in Geraci Siculo by the University of Hertfordshire, Edizioni Arianna and Comune di Geraci Siculo, together with University of Basilicata, and University of Palermo. The summer school took place between the 15th– 20th July 2024 and focused on achieving sustainable urban development for the town through an interdisciplinary approach, aiming to generate a shared vision of space and society. The summer school “Mission Future/Missione Futuro” aimed to address critical issues such as depopulation and the construction of territorial cultural identity, with the goal of influencing strategies, policies, and actions. Through the students’ investigation, the groups explored the opportunity to redesign and reuse abandoned areas of the medieval centre as places for scientific research and to attract IT companies and digital nomads, with a specific focus on a company designing robots. The experience was supported by different forms of civic engagement with citizens, councils, scholars from various fields, and stakeholders interested in taking ownership alongside the council.
